There was some discussion here about Senator Obama’s meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki in July and whether Obama tried to undermine the Bush administration’s negotiations with the Iraqi government. Allahpundit has the latest developments and raises some interesting questions.
Key here is that previous reports failed to mention that the meeting was attended by U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker and the Baghdad embassy’s Legislative Affairs advisor Rich Haughton, as well as Republican Senator Chuck Hagel. This was hardly a private meeting in the presence of so many representatives of the administration. In other words, if there had been a blatant situation, it would have been a big deal already.
Still Allahpundit raises an issue over the Senate’s advise and consent power, “heavy hints” and Bush’s executive authority. More here.
