If Democrats Win, We All Lose

Rasmussen’s October 5th poll results show that

  • 75% of voters think their representatives do not understand legislation before they vote on it.
  • 59% of voters would like to fire all of their representatives and elect new ones.
  • More than 90% of Congress is likely to be elected in November due to a system that benefits incumbents.

If voters are disgusted with Congress, why would they want their representatives to have carte blanche to enact whatever they like? If Obama wins the election, whatever Congress wants, Congress will get. Given the state of the economy, the health care system, the war on terror, etc., can voters trust a group of people, 75% of whom voters believe don’t even understand the legislation on which they vote?

Do Americans really want an unfettered President Obama? If you think our rights were trampled by Bush, wait till you see what Obama will do with his newer, bigger, better brand of government. A Democtratic Congress would make it so and give him whatever he wants just as he would do the same for Congress. Checks and balances would be moot just as it was for the first six years of the Bush presidency. Add to that the extent to which Obama could reshape the Supreme Court and we would be reduced to a one-party government.

There is a vast difference between the Bush presidency and an Obama presidency. Voters need to be warned that electing only Democratic candidates may transform the United States into a social democracy, “a political movement advocating a gradual and peaceful transition from capitalism to socialism by democratic means.” This threat, with all the burdens and restrictions that are inherent in that form of government, needs to be hammered home to Republicans, independents, and undecideds alike.

This election is far more than a rejection of Bush and his failed policies or Congress and its poor leadership, pork barrel greed and ignorance. It is tantamount to a referendum on our freedoms and our future. If Democrats across the boards win,  America will become the planet’s newest social democracy. This election is that important.

  1. I suppose you could call me “old school” but IMO our system of checks and balances works. On occasion maintaining it has guided my vote and will continue to do so.

With a liberal Congress, a President Obama plus five possible SCOTUS openings, the pendulum will swing far too much in one direction. Then there is the government bailout and the likelihood of a great deal more government involvement in the private sector and there you have all the ingredients necessary for a social democracy.

But you are certainly right that it is my perspective though not original. What’s yours?

  3. There’s nothing to indicate that an Obama presidency along with a democratic Congress will lead to what you labeled a “Social Democracy.” I’m curious though, why you think that that is such a bad thing? There’s nothing inherently evil about such a label; there are lots of social democracies that work quite well. Cheers!
